GatesAir Launches Maxiva™ StreamAssure for Cloud-Based Over-The-Air TV Monitoring
Powered by Qligent’s Vision platform, unique service improves quality of service and experience for broadcasters, viewers
Cincinnati, OH / Melbourne, FL, September 08, 2015
GatesAir, a global leader in wireless, over-the-air content delivery solutions for radio and TV broadcasters, announces the availability of Maxiva™ StreamAssure, a cloud-based QoS/QoE monitoring solution for multichannel over-the-air networks and local broadcasters. Powered by Qligent, an expert in cloud monitoring for multiplatform TV delivery, StreamAssure gives broadcasters comprehensive end-to-end monitoring and verification of multiple formats and stream layers along the entire delivery path. This detailed, data-rich approach ensures full standards compliance and improved consumer quality of experience.
Leveraging the infinite scalability and cloud power of Qligent’s Vision platform, StreamAssure simplifies the traditional component-based architecture of disparate monitoring systems through a centralized platform. Its cloud monitoring characteristics allow on-premises and off-site, managed service-based monitoring of physical, transport and audio/video streams from a single dashboard to more easily understand network-wide performance.
Rapid isolation of performance issues over the transport and RF infrastructure is another key value proposition for broadcasters. The ability to analyze multiple IP, ASI and other streams ahead of the transmitter concurrently with the RF and decoded audio/video streams coming out allows users to quickly identify and address the source of the problem, ensuring unprecedented accuracy across root cause analysis, impact valuation and corrective actions.
“Broadcasters have always had the technology to understand the health and operation of the transmitter, however understanding the quality and health of the content streams coming in and going out of the transmitter has been complex,” said Rich Redmond, chief product officer, GatesAir. “Maxiva StreamAssure provides the simplified in-depth monitoring and verification of the entire delivery and distribution chain that is essential to an exceptional viewer experience.”
Maxiva StreamAssure, which GatesAir will demonstrate at its IBC2015 Stand (8.B20, RAI Convention Center, Amsterdam, September 11-15), is fully scalable from a single transmitter deployment to large national networks, and can cover thousands of transmitters and RF plants deployed over a wide geographical area. Since monitoring can be centralized to single screens via Qligent’s platform, broadcasters faced with reduced technical resources and operating budgets can boost efficiency in an increasingly complex digital terrestrial TV (DTT) architecture.
“Over-the-air delivery is more capable and thus more complex than ever, with a very high density of program streams and channels occupying the same UHF and VHF spectrum,” said Ted Korte, COO, Qligent, which will demonstrate Vision at Stand 8.A09. “Therefore, broadcasters can no longer think of the transmitter as an appliance; it is an integral part of a dynamic system including encoders, multiplexers, gateways, and studio-to-transmitter links, all of which play critical roles in the overall cause and effect that reaches the viewer. StreamAssure addresses this new reality of soft failures and air chain tradeoffs that can quickly become catastrophic in the DTT world, giving operators a much broader view of what’s happening from the time streams leave the studio through to end delivery.”
Now shipping, StreamAssure integrates with GatesAir Maxiva UHF and VHF transmitters to ensure a reliable, functional and cost-saving solution from the commissioning stage to long-term transmitter and network monitoring needs, including compliance across emerging IP-based delivery platforms. Additionally, long-term users increase protection against lost ad revenue and penalties by limiting transmitter downtime. This includes StreamAssure’s ability to record raw transport streams in correlation with fault conditions, ensuring quick and efficient root cause analysis, troubleshooting and problem resolution.
